Accessories You Will Need to Purchase with Your Box of Coarse Thread Steel Hex Cap Screws

With every fastener comes the need for more tools and accessories. Perhaps that is why shop owners and carpenters enjoy their work so much; it is a fresh new reason to buy more tools every time they use a different kind of fastener. When you need coarse thread steel hex cap screws, and you are planning to use a lot of them, here are some accessories and tools you should purchase along with the screws.

An Adjustable Wrench

These screws are not slotted on the top. You will not be able to use a screwdriver to tighten them. Instead, you will need an adjustable wrench. The wrench's adjustable head can fit around two sides of the hex cap on the screw, tighten around those two sides for a firm grip, and allow you to crank until you cannot budge the screw further.

Hex Nuts and Washers

What goes best with hex nut screws? Hex nut washers go best, of course! Make sure when you buy your hex nut screws that you buy as many boxes of nuts as you need in order to hold the screws in place and keep the screws from twisting out. The nuts should also be the same size as the screws in terms of thread gauge and diameter of the body of the screw. While it is not entirely necessary to buy washers, they do protect the surfaces of materials through which you are fastening the hex cap screws and bracing with the hex nuts on the other side. Likewise, buy as many boxes of washers that you expect to use, and the washers should also fit over the screws if they are the correct size.

Spray Lubrication

Spray lubrication is essential for any screws you have possibly over-tightened and now need to remove. Spraying the nut and the screw will make it easier to loosen them and then remove them. If you want to reuse the screw and nut, be sure to rinse off the lubricant and thoroughly pat the screw and nut dry before reinserting them through the opening where they were removed. Use an alcohol wipe to clean any lubricating residue from the surfaces of the objects you are trying to join. The spray lubricant is also excellent to keep around in the event that the screws or nuts become rusty in the future and you want to replace them with new ones.
